An Austin Prep student barrels down the staircase towards the dining hall with only a few things on their mind: the pop quiz they may have bombed, the wariness that going too fast will untuck your shirt , and most importantly, food. If they’re smart, they’ve checked the Touch Of Sage app and figured out in advance what they’re going to eat for lunch. If not, they drop their backpack at a table and head for the line.

After asking several students about their favorite meals, the results are overwhelming: we love the pizza! This isn’t surprising, because its hot, gooey cheese and sweet sauce are a major step up from last year’s garlic bread dipped in lukewarm Ragu. There are choices for everyone, from the simple cheese lover to the students bold enough to eat Hawaiian in public. If you’re looking for something a little different and more meal-like, last Tuesday’s savory Mongolian Beef & Broccoli Stir-Fry came highly recommended, especially over the Jasmine Sticky Rice. If you’re looking for a hearty soup, the Herbed Chicken Noodle is the way to go. Now, if you’re not feeling particularly hungry (maybe you’ve had a fresh blueberry scone or cinnamon roll at cougar block) then you can head to either the salad or sandwich bar for seemingly endless combinations. After you’ve eaten lunch, you’ll most likely head over to the dessert station. If it’s Friday, then you’ll be grabbing one of the assorted Ice Cream Novelties (which you’ve probably been looking forward to all day). If not, you can only hope that it’s brownie day and that you’ve arrived in time to snatch one of the chewy, chocolatey treats before they’re gone. After school, there will be a snack waiting until 3, and although I’ve never tried any, I’m told that the Cinnamon Crispitos are great for your sugary and crunchy cravings.

Once you’ve enjoyed your snack you’ll head home or to an afterschool activity, stomach full of delicious food, and your schoolday, like this article, will be over.
